Sin City & The Raw Footage Band(Chicago)
It's Called LIFE (LIVE)
Described as "The Roots vs Linkin Park vs Black Eye Peas vs Rage Against the Machine", Raw Footage has quickly become known their diverse sound and explosive stage performances.
The Raw Footage Band was created by SoRawInc to back Chicago Music Award Winner Sin City.
There are not many artists today who are considered the full package: innate talent, showmanship and the ability to reach all demograhic masses through creative music. From the recording booth to the stage and after 9 years of continuously improving and perfecting his craft, Sin City has emerged as one of Chicago's rising and most promising stars.
The dynamics may be the same, but Sin City's history is not that of your average urban artist. Although his roots start in the notorious Robert Taylor projects on city's south side, his music has evolved to represent the positive aspects of his upbringing and experiences, yet he never loses sight of the reality and hardships of urban life.
Introduced to the art of rhyming while stationed aboard his first Naval ship in 1989, as most, he never thought much of his talent until years later when friends overheard him reciting poetry. "They told me I should try putting what I wrote over music " says Sin during a magazine interview. "Long story short, as soon as our ship pulled back into port, I was at a studio in Seattle recording songs and doing shows. At that point, I knew music would always be a big part of my life."
Sin City first created a buzz throughout Chicago with his first professionally recorded song "I D-CLARE WAR", which found itself in heavy rotation and placement on various underground mix-tapes. As a more lyrically-conscious artist, Sin went against the grain and had begun to make an impact in a market that catered to more hard core music. "People accepted me from day one, because I was a fresh voice and I wasn't talking about the same things most MC's were. The streets embraced me because I was giving them street music, yet I wasn't talking about women, cars, money, gangs and killing in all of my rhymes."
Soon after, military obligations and the pursuit of his Bachelors of Science Degree in Workforce Education & Development forced a brief departure from his music career. However, after graduating, Sin immediately returned with a ferocious style that showcased a unique blend of conceptual writing, flawless delivery and wordplay. His versatility and ability to connect with all audiences has solidified his presence in the industry, sparking constant comparisons to more notarized artist such as Talib Kweli, Eminem, Mos Def and Common.
Sin City's first album, Pentality of the Soul (POTS) created a huge buzz throughout the region for a non-promoted, first solo project. Showcasing his delivery, versatility over beats, and the ability to reach all demographics, the POTS project gave the audience Sin's angles on city life, the music industry, personal experiences, relationships and cultural conditions. "With the POTS album, I just wanted to let people know I was serious, but ironically enough, it wasn't for the people - it was for me. It was my first solo effort, so I had to prove to myself that I could establish myself as a solo artist. In a group, creating songs, concepts and hooks were always a collaborative effort. I always felt you can get by with giving half the effort, meaning for us to do a song I only needed one hot 16 bar verse, as opposed to 3 verses as a solo artist. Or, even on stage, with a crew or group, it's a lot easier, but as a solo artist, it's just you. So basically, I needed to see if I could meet those different challenges, as well as define myself and what I wanted my music to represent."
Sin City released his second full-length project entitled "War Paint - The MixTape" in March 2007 fully supported by his new creation, The Raw Footage Band. "I created the band because I wanted my music to have more feeling this time this time around, not just lyrically within the message, but instrumentally and musically as well. I want people to FEEL what I'm saying instead of just listening to the words. War Paint will be an extension of what my first album created, but with more punch, more maturity and more messages and of course, live performances with the new band. It's been a couple of years since POTS; I've learned a lot, I've matured as an artist, and now I'm ready to show the growth and make an impact."
In a place where future stars are born everyday, Sin has certainly emerged as one of Chicago's top artist, as evident by his recent selection as the 2005 Chicago Music Award's New Entertainer of the Year. His talents are evident, and he's well on his way to making his own unique mark in the history of Hip-Hop.

References:
"Sin is one of the coldest lyricists I know. He is the perfect mix between a street and a conscious MC - and that's not easy to accomplish in the game. You generally get either/or, but with him you get both." - Adam Lipschultz, Artist
"Because everybody sound the same these days, there's only two rappers in Chicago that I like, and Sin is one of them. His delivery is real nice and his music is meaningful." - Dwayne Washington, Photographer
"I support Sin because he puts on a great show. A lot of people can rap, but they can't perform. That's what sets him apart from the rest of them - he's more of an entertainer." - Jason Thompson, Nightclub Owner
"Sin City's awesome stage presence is why we continuously ask him to perform at our events. He's a seasoned artist and he gives the audience a full-fledge show." - Mark White, Event Promoter
